Charging infrastructure killed my long-ride plans
The Ather 450s had me excited on paper but the charging reality outside Ahmedabad city limits has been deeply frustrating. My planned Vadodara day trip turned into a two-hour wait at a non-Ather 15A socket because the nearest Grid point was 40 km off route. Highway range at 80 kmph barely crossed 72 km before the battery anxiety set in. The scooter itself handles reasonably at that speed but wind blast and ergonomics are not built for long stretches. Build quality and city performance are genuinely good — I have no complaints there. But Ather markets this as a versatile machine and the charging infrastructure simply does not support that claim outside the top five metros.

Good city bike, highway use needs careful planning
The Ather 450s performs admirably within Delhi but struggles to inspire confidence the moment you consider going further. The real-world range at highway speeds of 75-80 kmph drops to around 75 km — manageable but tight for a Delhi-Gurugram-Noida triangle kind of loop. The Ather Grid is reasonably well placed inside the city but sparse on NH routes. Comfort at sustained highway speeds is acceptable, though the screen is hard to read in direct afternoon sun. Build quality is good and charging at home is fast and reliable. For a committed city rider who occasionally needs to stretch, it works with planning. As a highway-capable touring scooter it does not fully deliver.

Family-friendly but boot space could be better
The Ather 450s is a solid family scooter with a specific limitation that matters to us: the boot space only accommodates one full-face helmet comfortably. For a household where two people commute with helmets, that is a daily inconvenience. Aside from that, the scooter is excellent for family use — smooth power delivery, confident braking, and good build quality give us peace of mind. Pillion comfort on city roads is satisfactory. The geofencing feature and app connectivity work reliably. Charging infrastructure in Nagpur is thinner than in bigger metros, which means we rely heavily on overnight home charging. A dependable choice, with that one practical compromise noted.

This is a scooter that's happiest holding 50-60kmph through city traffic, with enough left in the 22Nm of torque to squeeze past a slow-moving auto without a downshift-style hesitation. It will get to its electronically-limited 90kmph top speed on a clear flyover, but you feel the ceiling — this is a noticeably less eager scooter than its own sibling, the Apex, which hits 100kmph and gets there faster.

Range depends heavily on which battery you pick: the 2.9kWh pack is IDC-rated at 122km, the larger 3.7kWh pack at 161km, but real-world riding in mixed city traffic typically returns 85-95km and 115-130km respectively. For a rider commuting 25km a day, the base 2.9kWh pack still comfortably covers 3-4 days between charges.
